Working with FAO for over 25 years

From technical knowledge to publications and tools people use

MRCT is a family-run consultancy based in Rome. We develop, edit, design and lay out publications for FAO teams, and we build interactive dashboards and digital tools around their data.

02 · How we work

Simple to contract, easy to work with

We adapt the arrangement to the assignment, so FAO officers can choose what fits their project.

Option A

Individual consultancy

Contracts through our FAO Index Numbers, which many FAO officers find the most convenient route.

Option B

Company contract

A corporate arrangement through MRCT when a company framework is more suitable.

Always

A tool for your problem

If a need is not covered by existing solutions, we build a dedicated interactive tool around it.

A selection of our work

Representative publications and knowledge products we have delivered. All are public on the FAO website; the link opens the official page or document.

04 · Dashboards

Data people can explore

Three examples built on public FAO statistics. Each one works online and also as a single file that opens offline with a double click, with nothing to install.

05 · Interactive tools

Tools that guide people through the work

Browser-based tools that turn a technical procedure into simple, illustrated steps. They run online or as a single offline file, with nothing to install.

Example · FAO fishing gear and boats

Specification Builder

Guides field staff, part by part on an interactive drawing, to a complete and standard specification for buying fishing gear and boats after an emergency.

  • 7 paths: gillnets, longlines, hand lines, decked and open boats
  • Illustrated questions, measurement diagrams and built-in help
  • Printable specification sheet, Excel and Word export, save and resume

Originally developed for FAO as the Fishing Gear and Equipment Specifications programme by our family (programming: Magda Morales and J. Carlos Trabucco); fully redesigned in 2026.

Example · Wheat and fish, 46 countries and regions

Forecasting Model

Projects agricultural and fisheries indicators 1, 3 and 5 years ahead from historical FAO and OECD-FAO data, and lets users test their own scenarios.

  • Six statistical models tested on past years and combined, with an 80% range
  • Population (UN) and GDP (IMF) as drivers, plus events such as droughts, quota cuts or official figures
  • Comparison with the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook, year-by-year table and CSV export

Built by MRCT in 2026. Works online and offline, on computers, tablets and phones.

06 · Training tools

Courses people can follow on their own

Interactive training modules that run in the browser, online or offline: short lessons, practical exercises and quizzes with instant feedback, built around the content of FAO publications and projects.

Example · FAO Training Series, aquaculture

Simple Methods for Aquaculture

The six FAO training manuals on freshwater fish culture, from the original training module, rebuilt as an interactive course: water, soil, topography, pond construction, management and the farmers' handbook.

  • Learning path with 75 chapters, 3 815 colour illustrations and saved progress
  • 7 field calculators: pond water, stream flow, soil, slope, dikes, liming, stocking
  • 48 quiz questions, glossary at a click and search across all manuals

The original training module was produced for FAO by Magda Morales; fully redesigned in 2026.

07 · About us

A family that has worked with FAO for over 25 years

Our collaboration with FAO began over 25 years ago. Since then we have supported many FAO initiatives, mainly in fisheries and aquaculture, but also in land management, forestry and conservation agriculture.

Today the team brings together long editorial experience and newer digital skills, so a single partner can take care of both the publication and the tools that go with it. We are based in Rome and available to meet FAO teams in person.
